Question by Foksy: Added to: Help with Chronic Migraines?
First post: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylc=X3oDMTY5dTFrcjRyBElfYWd1aWQDNjUzRzRaNVdXSUVENkVIVEZBNFFZWlZXUzQESV9jZ3VpZAM2NTNHNFo1V1dJRUQ2RUhURkE0UVlaVldTNARJX2Nwcm9wA3lhaG9vLnNvY2lhbGJsb2cueWNhLmNsaWVudARJX3VjbnR4AwRJX3VzcmMDeS51cy5hbnN3ZXJzBElfdXN1aWQDMjAxMDEwMjcyMDE5NThBQUNvclpaX1IxUXJGWUIzYWEESV91dHlwZQNhc2sEX1MDMjAyMzQzNTI2MQ–?qid=20101027201958AACorZZ

Didn’t have enough room to add stuff and my link didn’t work so I made another post. Read both if you can!

Headache issues since 7th grade: got an MRI. Gradually got migraines here and there (meaning they got more painful), three years ago they got pretty bad, last year they got excruciating to the max and more often. I just got an MRI but don’t have results yet, I can always post it if that’s helpful to anyone. Added note here: I have pain most of the time literally and I think it would almost be 24/7 with out medicine.

If you can help me or have advice, I’m going to cover what I’ve done in case you/someone thinks that’s the answer.

*Imitrex – Works for moderate/normal migraines but I’ve stopped taking because of this next one;

*Atenolol : Prevention for migraines, but its generally a heart/blood pressure medication. I have tried different dosages. It helped me have a little less, but my life is still not livable.

*Topamax: Didn’t work, made me emotionally unstable-was generic though.

*Lithium: Sometimes-can help when I combine with Tramadol. Can only take it once a night for sleep.

*Tramodol: As stated, was prescribed it after the hospital. For whatever reason the family doctor makes me ask for a refill every time I need it, even though I can’t take freaking Imitrex with Atenolol bc I feel bad. He never told me that! I would have 3 refills on it too, I could’ve damaged my heart. Tramodol works on some migraines; for really bad ones I take 2 ASAP or nothing happens. Even then it can come back.

*Oxycotin/Hydrocode/Oxycodone: Has worked the highest percentage of the time, failed twice out of maybe two months (which is amazing for me right now) and that’s when I went to the hospital. Sometimes when I’ve tried all day or a WEEL to get rid of pain 1/2 can work. However, there are times I’ve needed two or three. I’ve heard this term a few times, “rebound headaches”. But I basically have constant pain anyway and I’m eating Tramadol like chips to take the edge of. I think THAT’S WORSE. It’s so incredibly bad I don’t care about anything but relief. That might sound irresponsible but trust me, I know pain. Fractured (cracked) bones, foot ran over by a car, hyper extended knew–which is the knew going the wrong way. It really doesn’t compare to that pain because its so constant and something about a migraine is just worse.

*I’ve been on Cymbalta and another anti-depressant and Lamictal. Cymbalta didn’t help mood enough or pain at all and Lamictal is helping mood and back pain and not migraines.

Hospital visits are like, 100 bucks co-pay and then a lot more after that. So many times I want to go and I can’t, I have to hold my head and breath because I have barely any medicine and people freak out with oxycodone, but I don’t because I can’t exercise, play sports, read, watch TV sometimes… I’d almost rather die than worry about anything else. Over the counter epically fails for me. How can I approach doctors or what can I ask for?

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Harley Drive
latest research and treatment indicates persistent migraines are caused by a narrow artery in the neck feeding the brain and can be cured permanently by inserting a stent in the artery to keep, it open

Question by synergy12_6: Chronic headaches with congestion and ear pressure?
I have spent the last several years with constant nasal and chest congestion with chronic headaches and earaches. All of the sudden about 6 days ago I got a severe headache with ear pressure and it hasn’t gone away since. The pain and pressure is constant. I’ve had a doc tell me that my headaches were probably caused by chronic candidiasis, but this sudden flare makes me think there’s something else wrong. I need some relief!

Best answer:

Answer by MCGKC
If your current doctor is not helping, get a new doctor. You could have several things going on – but if you are having severe headaches, you need to see a doctor who has an interest in helping you.

www.emfnews.org www.emfnews.org Out of great concern for the health of our fellow human beings do we – as established physicians of all fields, especially that of environmental medicine – turn to the medical establishment and those in public health and political domains, as well as to the public. We have observed, in recent years, a dramatic rise in severe and chronic diseases among our patients, especially: • Learning, concentration, and behavioural disorders (eg attention deficit disorder, ADD) • Extreme fluctuations in blood pressure, ever harder to influence with medications • Heart rhythm disorders • Heart attacks and strokes among an increasingly younger population • Brain-degenerative diseases (eg Alzheimer–s) and epilepsy • Cancerous afflictions: leukemia, brain tumors Moreover, we have observed an ever-increasing occurrence of various disorders, often misdiagnosed in patients as psychosomatic: • Headaches, migraines • Chronic exhaustion • Inner agitation • Sleeplessness, daytime sleepiness • Tinnitus • Susceptibility to infection • Nervous and connective tissue pains, for which the usual causes do not explain even the most conspicuous symptoms Since the living environment and lifestyles of our patients are familiar to us, we can see especially after carefully-directed inquiry a clear temporal and spatial correlation between the appearance of disease and exposure to pulsed high -frequency microwave radiation (HFMR), such as: • Installation of a mobile telephone …

Her story: Joy C., a homemaker, has had sick headaches since she was 15. Her headaches gradually increased in frequency and severity. The pain could be on one or both sides of her head, throbbing in quality, starting in her occipital area and extending across her whole head, forehead, behind her eyes, through her cheeks and into her teeth. Once per week, the head pain climbed to an extremely high intensity and was accompanied by light and sound sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. She frequently had a visual aura preceding her headaches. When first seen at the Headache Institute of Texas, in San Antonio, she was having daily headaches, averaging a 6 on a 0-10 scale and a 10 pain level once per week (with associated migraine symptoms, as described). In addition to daily headaches (despite being on topamax), she was had daily neck, upper back, and shoulder blade pain. She also had daily ear pain, ear ringing, and jaw pain. She was dizzy twice per week.

Her story: Natalie W. (17 years old) joins the countless others who have discovered that their headache and migraine symptoms, as well as related symptoms, could be eliminated through treatment of her neck. In her case, those related symptoms have included sinus problems and postnasal drip (for years), light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, and occasional nausea. The sinus problems were daily, and the other associated symptoms were 3 days a week. She missed school or school-related activities an average of one day per week for at least the last year. She was treated at the Headache Institute of Texas, in San Antonio.

There are four types of chronic headaches:

· vascular (migraines)
· muscle contraction (tension)
· traction
· inflammatory.

The most common type of vascular headache is migraine. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head, an upset stomach, and, at times, disturbed vision. Two other kinds of recurring headaches are “cluster” headaches, which cause repeated episodes of intense pain, and headaches resulting from high blood pressure.
Chronic tension headaches appear to involve the tightening or tensing of facial and neck muscles. Traction and inflammatory headaches are symptoms of other disorders, ranging from stroke to infection. Like other types of pain, headaches can serve as warning signals of a more serious disorder, including those related to meningitis as well as those resulting from diseases of the sinuses, spine, neck, ears, and teeth.

When addressing chronic headaches consider:

· the head is heavy and must sit on the spine in a mechanically efficient way
· the relationship of the head to the spine is altered in nearly all patients with chronic tension headaches and migraine headaches
· The excessive strain on the whole system, but especially the muscles and vessels of the head and neck, as a consequence of poor alignment

The musculoskeletal system is an organized functioning system.

This approach is a global view of chronic headaches and assumes
· Interactions between body parts can cause excessive strain and pain in places remote from the problem
· a rigid chest or immobile pelvis could be the underlying cause of the headaches by contributing to the altered position of the head and neck
· Only when the system is addressed as a whole does headache relief occur

The Feldenkrais Method is a systematic method to improve human movement and general functioning without drugs, shots or machines. Feldenkrais uses simple, gentle movements to reorganize posture, flexibility, strength and coordination and in doing so relieves recurrent headache pain. A novel approach to pain management, Feldenkrais integrates mind and body, harnessing the power of the nervous system to help the body function more efficiently. More efficient use of self creates an environment within which chronic headache pain can heal. Let Lori L.
