Question by Emerson S: Tension headache so bad I wear my glasses on the outside of my ears.?
A neurologist thinks I have chronic tension headache. He’s never heard of it being so bad that I can’t wear glasses on the inside of my ears. Does anyone else experience this, and does this mean something extra nutty about my condition?

Best answer:

Answer by sokokl
I have never experienced this nor do I think that this indicates you being nutty about your condition. I do see it as reason for concern and it’s a very good reason for concern.

You could also have some issues going on with your jaw such as in a condition called Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome which can cause headaches and pain around the ear such as when wearing glasses.

I would recommend getting an opinion from the dentist as well to see what they say.

Question by Ashauna B: What are some pressure points to press for headaches?
I get headaches almost every day and I don’t think that it is a good idea to always take pills like advil, tylenol, asprin etc. all of the time for them. What else can I do? One of my teachers found a pressure point in my hand for me and he helped my headache to go away – but I don’t know how to do this on my own. I have a headache now!!! Someone help.

Best answer:

Answer by Wilson F
ok, between the thumb and pointer finger there is that stretch of skin. squeeze the muscle under the skin with your other hand for about a minute. also about 2 inches down from your wrist in between the 2 tendons, squeeze there

Question by olga b: 5 weeks pregnant, Blood Pressure 145/95 Caffeine withdrawal headache?
Hi, I am 5 weeks pregnant and I have quit caffeine yesterday. I got a massive headache and my blood pressure went up to 145 over 99. I have tried to reduce my tension headache by drinking some coffee, the headache got a bit better, but the blood pressure remains. Is there anything I can do right now to reduce it? Is it dangerous to have it this high for more than 6 hours? Should I contact my local ER.doctor? Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Sw Eden
You must not drink coffee during pregnant. That will hurt your baby. You may contact your doctor. What you eed to do is drink a lot of water and milk. You have to eat a lot more than before, because your baby consume a lot. He is growing and need a lot of food. If you do not eat enough, he will take all what you have in your body, and that may cause your sickness.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Lilly: Best way to alleviate a tension headache?
I have been getting really bad tension headaches that start at the base of my head and put my whole head in a vice. My doctor told me that an ice pack would be the best way to help it but I feel like it sometimes makes the base of my head feel more cramped. Is it better to use a heating pad or stick with ice?

Best answer:

Answer by Deep Thinker
I think in this case cold would be better then heat. I think you should also take Excedrin for Tension Headaches. It works really good and fast.

Every day millions of people suffer from headaches. Headache pain can be due to stress, muscle or eye strain, hunger, lack of sleep or a variety of other causes.

Tension headaches or tension-type headaches are the most common form of primary headaches. A primary headache is a headache which is not caused by another medical condition or ailment. Tension-type headaches can be categorized as episodic (fewer than 15 days a month) or chronic (more than 15 days a month for a period of over 6 months). Normally a tension headache will last 4-6 hours, but the duration can last from minutes to days and even for years in some rare chronic cases. The pain from a tension headache can be described as a constant pain or pressure, or alternately as a throbbing pain, located in the front, top or sides of the head.

For many headache sufferers, pain medication, or drugs, are a common way for dealing with tension-type pain.

However, there are many drawbacks to taking over-the-counter or prescription painkillers for tension headaches, especially for those who suffer from chronic pain, or have liver or stomach problems. Many may prefer to simply avoid taking drugs to combat pain when possible and utilize natural, drug-free treatments to find relief. For those with serious or chronic pain issues, it is always important to consult your doctor before beginning any kind of treatment.

A common cause of tension headaches is believed to be tightened muscles in the back of the neck, shoulders, at the base of the skull and on the scalp. When these muscles tighten, they contract and pull, often resulting in pressure and the sensation of pain. Massage therapy has been shown to be a very beneficial remedy for these kinds of conditions, which are associated with stress and tension.

Treating tension headaches with therapeutic massage:

Therapeutic massage is an effective method in the treatment of tension-type headaches and other stress and muscle tension related ailments. Massage techniques, as applied by professionally trained, qualified massage therapists, have been specifically developed to relieve pain by treating the source of that pain: the muscles and tissues of the back of the neck, shoulders, at the base of the skull and on the scalp. Warming, softening and relaxing these muscles, tendons and connective tissues, through therapeutic massage, eases the pressure which can cause tension headaches and is a powerful technique for relieving pain associated with this ailment. Full body massage treatments also aid in relaxing muscle tension throughout the body and alleviating pain. Even a tense calf muscle can cause a person to react by tensing his or her shoulders and neck against the pain, which can then lead to a tension-type headache. This is especially true of the muscles of both the lower and upper back, as they support much of the body’s weight and directly connect to the muscle groups associated with tension-type headaches. In these ways, massage therapy treats tension headaches by addressing the specific muscles that cause this type of pain, but also through a holistic approach, promoting full body relaxation and general muscle and body health.

Massage is also a great way to relieve and manage stress, which is a common cause of tension-type headaches. Treating a tension headache with massage is not only healthy in that it avoids the use of drugs and their potentially unpleasant side effects, but massage therapy is good for overall body health, blood and lymphatic circulation, muscle tone and general well-being. It is also recommended as a preventative medicinal technique for avoiding tension headaches. If the body’s muscles are maintained in a relaxed, healthy state through regular massage treatments, then tension headaches are generally less likely to occur. On top of all that, massage can be a wonderfully pleasurable and relaxing experience and is recommended for both physical and psychological wellness by many doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
