Meditation is a natural cure for tension headaches. With stress and anxiety becoming a part of everyday life, its no wonder that tension headaches are so common. People are reaching for drugs like acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen to relieve tension headaches. These drugs only treat the symptoms not the cause.

Tension headaches are muscular, not vascular, and the triggers tend to be physical and stress-related factors. Tension headaches are usually caused by muscle contractions in the head, neck, and shoulder muscles. Most tension headaches are defined as mild to moderately intense, but the severity of the pain varies from one person to another, and can vary from one headache to another in the same person.

Chiropractic adjustments, message and stretching can help loosen the muscles in your neck, shoulders and back after they get tight. Meditation can help relieve the stresses of life thus preventing these muscles from tightening. Meditation leads to a deeper level of physical relaxation and promotes a neurochemical shifting. Stress hormones like cortisol are acutely lowered and when we feel more relaxed, the brain generates natural anti-anxiety and happiness-enhancing chemicals like endorphins and high levels of serotonin.

Tension headaches are a symptom of stress caused by our busy and hectic lives. There are many causes of stress that causes tension headaches.

The most common external causes are:

* Major life changes
* Work
* Relationship difficulties
* Financial problems
* Being too busy
* Children and family

The most common internal causes are:

* Inability to accept uncertainty
* Pessimism
* Negative self-talk
* Unrealistic expectations
* Perfectionism
* Lack of assertiveness

You cant hide from life, but you can learn to alleviate the stress that causes tension headaches. Meditation leads to the relaxation response, which is a physiologic response that opposes the stress response. It is a protective mechanism against stressful stimuli whether it be emotional or physical.

Question by Emerson S: Tension headache so bad I wear my glasses on the outside of my ears.?
A neurologist thinks I have chronic tension headache. He’s never heard of it being so bad that I can’t wear glasses on the inside of my ears. Does anyone else experience this, and does this mean something extra nutty about my condition?

Best answer:

Answer by sokokl
I have never experienced this nor do I think that this indicates you being nutty about your condition. I do see it as reason for concern and it’s a very good reason for concern.

You could also have some issues going on with your jaw such as in a condition called Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome which can cause headaches and pain around the ear such as when wearing glasses.

I would recommend getting an opinion from the dentist as well to see what they say.

Question by Ashauna B: What are some pressure points to press for headaches?
I get headaches almost every day and I don’t think that it is a good idea to always take pills like advil, tylenol,asprin etc. all of the time for them. What else can I do? One of my teachers found a pressure point in my hand for me and he helped my headache to go away – but I don’t know how to do this on my own. I have a headache now!!! Someone help.

Best answer:

Answer by Wilson F
ok, between the thumb and pointer finger there is that stretch of skin. squeeze the muscle under the skin with your other hand for about a minute. also about 2 inches down from your wrist in between the 2 tendons, squeeze there

Article by Victor Epand

While many weekend warriors head for the outdoors to escape the headaches of modern life. The outdoor experience can be enhanced without ruining the natural aspect of the trip with a serious weather instrument like a barometer.

With that in mind, there is a hand held barometer on the market has functional weather features and is light weight. Most barometer are too heavy to take with you when hiking in the outdoors, but with a hand held barometer that weighs only a couple of ounces you will definitely want to add it to your backpack when hiking. A hand held barometer is even great for taking on long trips when weather information might prove vital.

With a barometer that is hand held rather than when it is worn watch style on your wrist, there is always a danger of leaving it hanging some where. Even with the danger of accidentally leaving it hanging in a tree some where, many prefer a hand held barometer over those big and bulky barometers that you where on your wrist. Often times the watch style barometers have displays and buttons that are simply just too small. With a hand held barometers the documentation is clear, although the type is very small. It seems like a huge manual until you realize it comes in six languages, although it is not complex, navigating through the features is obvious.

If you only use these types of barometers occasionally, then you will probably need a refresher run through the manual before heading out for the outdoors. However, if you use it frequently, then you will have no problem remembering how to access the various features. These hand held barometers stores pressure information for twenty-four hours and shows a six hour trend on all screens. A pressure change alarm sounds when pressure drops twelve-tenths in inches of mercury or more in a three-hour period, which is a sign of impending bad weather.

The barometer memory keeps maximum and minimum pressure and temperature for the last twenty-four hours, and thirty minute reading for the last three hours, and three hours interval readings from three hours to twenty-four hours. The altimeter also has an alarm, and logs altitude whether it is a gain or a loss, cumulative gains and losses since the last log reset, maximum and minimum altitude, the average rate of ascent and descent, starting date, time of the log, and any altitude points you enter. The barometer and altimeter logs might seem minor, but they are the essence of a good weather instrument. It is the tracking of barometric temperature over time that allows weather forecasting.

One cool feature is a weather station and altitude feature. In weather station mode, the device assumes that altitude is locked like you are in a camp, so all pressure changes are due to weather. In altitude mode, it assumes pressure changes are due to elevation change in altitude as during an ascent. With all of these excellent weather features, you will be surprised to learn that the bottom of the temperature range is minus five degrees Fahrenheit, while the altimeter goes to twenty-nine thousand feet. This seems like an unreasonable limitation but in winter even at elevations of ten thousand feet temperatures drop well below five degrees below Fahrenheit.
