Question by Foksy: Added to: Help with Chronic Migraines?
First post: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylc=X3oDMTY5dTFrcjRyBElfYWd1aWQDNjUzRzRaNVdXSUVENkVIVEZBNFFZWlZXUzQESV9jZ3VpZAM2NTNHNFo1V1dJRUQ2RUhURkE0UVlaVldTNARJX2Nwcm9wA3lhaG9vLnNvY2lhbGJsb2cueWNhLmNsaWVudARJX3VjbnR4AwRJX3VzcmMDeS51cy5hbnN3ZXJzBElfdXN1aWQDMjAxMDEwMjcyMDE5NThBQUNvclpaX1IxUXJGWUIzYWEESV91dHlwZQNhc2sEX1MDMjAyMzQzNTI2MQ–?qid=20101027201958AACorZZ

Didn’t have enough room to add stuff and my link didn’t work so I made another post. Read both if you can!

Headache issues since 7th grade: got an MRI. Gradually got migraines here and there (meaning they got more painful), three years ago they got pretty bad, last year they got excruciating to the max and more often. I just got an MRI but don’t have results yet, I can always post it if that’s helpful to anyone. Added note here: I have pain most of the time literally and I think it would almost be 24/7 with out medicine.

If you can help me or have advice, I’m going to cover what I’ve done in case you/someone thinks that’s the answer.

*Imitrex – Works for moderate/normal migraines but I’ve stopped taking because of this next one;

*Atenolol : Prevention for migraines, but its generally a heart/blood pressure medication. I have tried different dosages. It helped me have a little less, but my life is still not livable.

*Topamax: Didn’t work, made me emotionally unstable-was generic though.

*Lithium: Sometimes-can help when I combine with Tramadol. Can only take it once a night for sleep.

*Tramodol: As stated, was prescribed it after the hospital. For whatever reason the family doctor makes me ask for a refill every time I need it, even though I can’t take freaking Imitrex with Atenolol bc I feel bad. He never told me that! I would have 3 refills on it too, I could’ve damaged my heart. Tramodol works on some migraines; for really bad ones I take 2 ASAP or nothing happens. Even then it can come back.

*Oxycotin/Hydrocode/Oxycodone: Has worked the highest percentage of the time, failed twice out of maybe two months (which is amazing for me right now) and that’s when I went to the hospital. Sometimes when I’ve tried all day or a WEEL to get rid of pain 1/2 can work. However, there are times I’ve needed two or three. I’ve heard this term a few times, “rebound headaches”. But I basically have constant pain anyway and I’m eating Tramadol like chips to take the edge of. I think THAT’S WORSE. It’s so incredibly bad I don’t care about anything but relief. That might sound irresponsible but trust me, I know pain. Fractured (cracked) bones, foot ran over by a car, hyper extended knew–which is the knew going the wrong way. It really doesn’t compare to that pain because its so constant and something about a migraine is just worse.

*I’ve been on Cymbalta and another anti-depressant and Lamictal. Cymbalta didn’t help mood enough or pain at all and Lamictal is helping mood and back pain and not migraines.

Hospital visits are like, 100 bucks co-pay and then a lot more after that. So many times I want to go and I can’t, I have to hold my head and breath because I have barely any medicine and people freak out with oxycodone, but I don’t because I can’t exercise, play sports, read, watch TV sometimes… I’d almost rather die than worry about anything else. Over the counter epically fails for me. How can I approach doctors or what can I ask for?

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Harley Drive
latest research and treatment indicates persistent migraines are caused by a narrow artery in the neck feeding the brain and can be cured permanently by inserting a stent in the artery to keep, it open

High blood pressure is a condition that afflicts much of the older generation. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to avoid high blood pressure and to reduce it if you already have a problem.

Your blood pressure should be under 140/90 mm Hg. However, if your blood pressure is over this number you may have a serious problem.

It is best to visit with your doctor to discuss what can be done to resolve it. This condition can lead to a variety of negative side effects that could affect your health for the worst.

For example, this condition may result in high risk for a stroke or heart attack. It could also result in other serious heart conditions that may lead to death.

If your doctor says that you are at risk for these things, he or she will probably give you a prescription medicine which will help you reduce your blood pressure. Be sure to take this medicine as prescribed.

Sometimes some medicines can make you experience some of the negative side effects. If this is the case you will need to visit your doctor again to see if there is an alternative to the medicine he or she first gave you.

Your doctor should also be able to answer any other questions that you may have at this point. Another thing that can negatively affect blood pressure is your weight.

Obese people are at a much higher risk for problematic blood pressure and the other serious heart conditions. In addition, these conditions can be much more difficult to treat when you are overweight.

Your body mass index number will be able to tell you whether or not you need to lose weight. If your body mass index number is 25 or greater you could probably stand to lose several pounds.

Another indicator of whether you should lose weight or not is your waist size. Women should generally have a waist size smaller than 35 inches and men should usually have a waist size smaller than 40 inches.

Your doctor will also be able to tell you whether or not you need to lose weight. One of the best ways to lose weight and to keep it under control is to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.

Running can help you lose the most calories, but it also has other negative side effects. The key to exercising to lose weight is to find an activity you enjoy and feel motivated enough to do on a consistent basis.

In addition, you do not have to exercise for 30 minutes straight. Instead you can work out for shorter segments that add up to 30 minutes.

Even if you do not need to lose weight, exercise can help you keep your blood pressure normal. Likewise, it offers hundreds of other benefits that you can enjoy.

What you eat will also obviously affect your weight and your blood pressure. Foods that are high in salt or sodium are generally bad for you and will make your condition much worst.

The general rule is that Americans should not eat any more than 2.4 grams of sodium in a given day. This is about six grams or one teaspoon of salt a day.

If you are already suffering from high blood pressure you probably will want to eat even less salt than this during a day. As always it is also a good idea to stay away from high cholesterol foods and to focus on fruits and vegetables.

It can help you to make wise decisions if you read the nutrition labels on the foods you eat. When you go shopping be sure to examine the labels and pick the variety of food that has the least sodium and fat and the most nutrient.

As you practice reading these labels you will be able to know about how much sodium you are eating every meals quite easily. Keeping track of your sodium intake is important if you are going to reduce how much salt you eat.

You may even want to write down how much sodium you ate every day. This will help you review how much salt you ate and which foods contribute the most to your problem.

You will then be able to reduce the problem foods and increase the foods you like that help alleviate your problem. If you miss the flavor, try to replace the salt with other seasonings whenever possible and you may find that removing salt from your diet is not such a huge problem.

Question by : What can i do to relieve my sinus congestion and headaches? ?
I am suffering from intense sinus pressure and headaches on a regular basis; pretty much every day. I am taking Claritin D, have used over-the-counter decongestants as well as prescription decongestants. I get mild, temporary relief but nothing removes my problem completely. I have a hard time reading or concentrating on anything for that matter. It’s even hard to hold a gold conversation at times due to the headaches. Please help, my sinus problem is ruining my life!

Best answer:

Answer by Katie Honey
When I have sinus problems, I usually use Advil Cold and Sinus medicine to reduce the congestion and headaches. I find that this really helps out. It also helps me to put a soft towel in warm water, and place the towel on my face. By doing this, you help to relieve the sinuses and reduce the pressure in those areas.

I hope you feel better!:)
